Dehydration – It’s not always a bad thing!

I really enjoy cooking and like many others that do, I have amassed lots of “tools” (read gadgets) to change up the ways I can cook different foods.  Also like many others, a large percentage of those “tools” are in the back of a cabinet somewhere gathering dust 😊.  As I have been experimenting with our menu, one thing I wanted to ensure was variety.  Not the same foods every week and not foods prepared the same way every time.  One particular challenge was fruit.  It’s part of every meal, every day, but honestly there is only so many ways to prepare it.  Cut it into different shapes (sticks, rings, slices, etc.)  Serve it cold. Warm it up.  Serve as a single fruit.  Mix a few together.  YAWN!  That’s when I noticed one of those boxes way in the back of a cabinet…my dehydrator!

Fruit Chips!! Yes!  Something different I can do with a menu item that appears every single day. I mean, what little one doesn’t like chips? And these chips are actually healthy.  A quick Google search and I learned just how healthy they can be.  Dehydrated fruit has been attributed to the betterment of such things as:

  • Bone Health
  • Weight Loss
  • Immunity Boosters
  • Antioxidant
  • Blood Sugar Regulation
  • Nutrients
  • Vitamins
  • Gut Health
  • Cancer Prevention

Wow!  Now I have dozens more experiments to conduct as there are so many different fruits and they all have very different dehydrating methods and times.  It’s truly a labor of love as we work to provide your little ones with the best experience possible at Just Like GRAMMY and POPPOP’s including meals and snack time.
